INSURANCE

INTRODUCTION TO INSURANCE

Insurance is the method of spreading and transfer of risks. Losses of unfortunate few are shared by and spread over to many exposed to the same risk. Assets created by the owner in expectation of future needs or benefits have a value. Loss of assets for any reasons deprives the owner of the expected benefit. Insurance in this context is a mechanism that helps to reduce the adverse consequences due to loss of assets.

CLASSIFICATION OF INSURANCE

Life is full of uncertainty. Trials and tribulations abound in each and every aspect of Life. No One can truly predict or even estimate what the future has in store for him. Life offers no guarantees by itself, except the incidences of death and taxation.
This lack of security present throughout life can be overcome partially through insurance. Insurance can never replace or repair a loss. But the monetary value offered by insurance helps in adjusting to the new circumstances.
Despite offering innumerable options and immense scope, insurance can be classified into four categories.
1. Insurance of Person
2. Insurance of Property
3. Insurance of Interest
4. Insurance of Liability

LIFE INSURANCE

Life Insurance is a contract for payment of a sum of money to the person assured (or failing him/her, to the person entitled to receive the same) on the happening of the event insured against.

Usually the insurance contact provides for the payment of an amount on the date of maturity or at the specified dates at periodic intervals or at unfortunate death if it occurs earlier. Obviously, there is a price to be paid for this benefit. Among other things, the contract also provides for the payment of premiums by the assured. Life insurance is universally acknowledged as a tool to eliminate risk, substitute certainly for uncertainty and ensure timely aid of the family in the unfortunate vent of the death of the breadwinner. In other words, it is the civilized world’s partial solution to the problems caused by death.

In a nutshell, life insurance helps in two ways: premature death, which leaves dependent families to fend for itself and old age without visible means of support.

Apart from statutory obligations, insurance is a way of covering the costs arising from disasters of various kinds. The principle of insurance is that the losses of the few are borne by the contributions of many. Many people pay into a common pool, and those who incur losses can draw money from the pool. Insurance services bring benefits to individuals, businesses, and society as a whole, and also provide opportunities for people to find fulfilling careers.
